Hazrat Ali (, may Allah be pleased with him.) was very close to Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,, and the closeness became a permanent relationship when he married his most beloved daughter, Hazrat Fatima (, may Allah be pleased with him.) to Hazrat Ali (, may Allah be pleased with him.).

Hazrat Ali (, may Allah be pleased with him.) also had a most distinguished honour; that the progeny of Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, continued through Hazrat Ali’s sons, Hazrat Hassan and Hazrat Hussain (, may Allah be pleased with him.). The two children were the most beloved of Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he, in turn, was very dear to them.

When Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, went to the expedition of Tabuk in 9 A.H., he left Hazrat Ali in charge of Madinah. On this, some hypocrites remarked that Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not like Hazrat Ali. On this, Rasulallah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, remarked, “You are in the same position in relation to me as Aaron was with relation to Moses. But the only difference is, there is no Prophet after me.”
