Our Verdict: Halal and Suitable for Vegetarians because anything that intoxicates is Haram (If the Vinegar does not intoxicate than it is Halal”.
Our View: Please remember there is a different of opinion among Hanafi and Shafi fiqa schools regarding vinegar. There is also different of opinion among Islamic Scholars regarding wine vinegar.
Islamic View: The white wine vinegar, as well as other types of vinegar, is lawful though at some point of the manufacturing process it may have been wine before becoming vinegar, because initially the intent was not be produce as wine but vinegar. If wine was the intended product and it naturally became vinegar instead, it is still lawful from the view of all the scholars of Islam. However, if the wine is changed into vinegar by adding something to it, some scholars think the resulting vinegar is impure and is, therefore, unlawful. This is the view of Malik, Ahmad and al-Shafi’. Other scholars believe that the resulting vinegar becomes pure and is then lawful to be eaten. This is the view of Abu Hanifa and it is also narrated from Ahmad as one of his opinions about this matter. This is because the reason for forbidding it, the ability to cause drunkenness, has disappeared. Moreover, there is no difference between the natural purity caused by “Providence” or the purity done through the involvement of a person such as purifying the clothes or purifying the soil (for prayers for instance). Thisview is also narrated from ‘Ata and ‘Amr Ibn Dinar.
